GROW the Co-op!

Open Harvest is a cooperative of around 3,000 dedicated, diverse and engaged member-owners. As of June 2022, Open Harvest is in the midst of a 2 million dollar capital campaign raising funds to move and grow the store so that it can serve Lincoln for (at least) another 47 years!  Since 1975 Open Harvest has been at the forefront of Lincoln's prosperous and fair cooperative economy. They provide access to healthy food, foster positive environmental impacts, and help create a thriving community. To ensure a sustainable future for the Co-Op they are relocating their store to a new home.

Commitment to Locally Grown Food

At Open Harvest shoppers can find locally produced and grown products in every department. About 30% of the stores sales are from local products - that's about $1,000,000 in revenue. By partnering with local farms and food businesses, Open Harvest has become a reliable source of local food. This partnership is great for both shoppers who are seeking local, and for local farmers who are looking to get their products onto grocery store shelves.

In 2021 Open Harvest organized the Dig Deeper Farm Tours to further connect consumers and farmers who sell to the Co-op. Eight local farms opened their doors to the public, giving tours, demonstrations and providing a glimpse into the life of the farmers whose products can be found on Open Harvest's shelves. SEED Program at Open Harvest

One way Open Harvest lives out their cooperative values is through robust community donations. The SEED Program is a new simple yet powerful community giving opportunity that allows customers to “round-up” their grocery bill for local organizations that share a commitment to a healthy community, sustainable food system, and strong local economy. During a specified month, local organizations are featured and all round-up contributions during that month will be given directly to the recipient organization at the end of each month.

Since its laund in March 2020, the SEED Program has raised over $20,000 for dozens of organizations like Matt Talbot Kitchen, The Malone Center and Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society.
